about the work

For me, the truest form of creation is the connection between the maker and the natural world around us.

The physicality of clay allows me to dig my hands into a material that has been created by the earth over vast periods of time and bring that past, beauty and importance into the present. To take that material and make something beautiful, useful and lasting is an honor. I want to make pieces with love and intention, to be used and shared, that reflect the intricacies of the material that made it.

My primary body of work focuses on illustrating botanicals native to or important to the Appalachian region. When choosing the species for illustration I look towards those plants that are integral to local ecosystems, as well as plants that are nourishing to the body and soul. The earthy and floral colors used in my pieces are drawn from our amazing region as well, while the forms I choose are inspired by the duality of soft and fluid with the harsh and rigid in the world around us
