Carey Ellen

Hello!

Iā€™m Carey Ellen of Soil + Spoon. Iā€™m a Tennessean, currently residing in the eastern side of the state.

From childhood I have loved playing in the dirt, exploring in nature and creating. As I have gotten older these passions have grown and matured with me. I have been able to transform my love and curiosity of the natural world into inspiration for my work.

A little more about me

I am currently a full time baker at Wild Love Bakehouse. In addition to loving clay I have always found peace and solace in making food for those around me.

The immediate feedback and connection I receive from both baking and working with clay brings me joy; and I feel that the two are intertwined in their role in nourishing the body.

I am a proud mother of two wonderful, inspiring and creative kids whom I raise with my partner. We also share the three best giant fluff balls Bonnie, Frankie and Sophie and 5 chickens Stripe, Wilma, Chicken Frankie, Bok Choy and Fred aka Nacho.

Experience

After learning from Eric Botbyl, of Companion Gallery, in 2009 (after my freshman year of College) I changed majors to study 3 dimensional art, with a focus in ceramics at UTK. During this time I traveled to study at La Meridiana, in Certaldo Italy, in 2010 and returned to work as an assistant in 2012.

Iā€™m now back at work in my home studio, in East Tennessee.
